Effective September 1, tramadol and products containing tramadol will be classified as Schedule IV controlled substances according to a new rule adopted by the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy. The Board order states: “Tramadol is an opioid painkiller that was previously unscheduled by the US Food and Drug Administration and has been widely abused, alone and in combination with other psychoactive substances, since its marketing approval in 1995.”
